An overseas proposal celebrated with two great accompaniments, pizza and champagne! Matthew popped the question to Helen in Copenhagen, with snow falling upon a lake in Tivoli Gardens and giant lit up swans gracing the water. With such a magical proposal, I knew that the wedding would have a similar kind of magic.

This quintessential Derbyshire wedding took place on June 10th 2017, where close family and friends enjoyed the day illustrated with DIY touches likened to a village fete.

The ceremony took place in the traditional setting of St Helens Church, Matlock; where Helen and Matt felt at home through the welcoming nature of the vicar. It was a joy to capture this occasion in such a beautiful setting, of an equally beautiful couple.

The reception was a Pinterest lovers dream in Ashover Parish Hall – I loved how the blank canvas was transformed with a white marquee lined with glowing fairy lights. Lanterns were scattered across the scene, with hay bales and milk churns borrowed from farmers that the couple knew. It truly was a gorgeous setting to shoot.

In keeping with a fun, village fete feel, the flowers were subtle with a fantastic mix of hand-picked wildflowers matched with arrangements provided by Frances and Rose in the Peak District. A colour scheme wasn’t needed for this wedding, as the warm tones of the reception matched with the bridesmaid’s dusky pink dresses made for a unique scheme of its own. Gorgeous light bohemian touches ran through the decorations, as seen in Helen’s dress she closely designed with Lisa of The Bridal Studio in Matlock. The off the shoulder design was simple but effortlessly elegant, a fitting description of the day as a whole!

The couple had really thought of every single detail to ensure the day went smoothly – including a keg of ale, scrumptious cocktails and those all-important flip-flops when dancing in heels became just that bit too much (such a brilliant idea!). A DJ and band, The Distractions, ensured the evening was packed with entertainment and laughter. The Dennis’ even went that extra mile providing guests with hangover kits to nurse their heads the following morning!

The day oozed romance surrounded by the couples nearest and dearest.

Bride’s Top Tips

Helen’s top tips for weddings are:

Take 10 minutes for yourself and your new partner as it’ll be the only alone time you’ll have.

Don’t stress on the day and take it all in. It’s over in a flash!
